Biomimetic Pendant Light · Layered Material & Light Diffusion

Desert flora translated into light.
Alo·e is a pendant light inspired by the aloe vera plant. The starting point was the question of how a form built for survival in a harsh desert could become a structure for light, turning the plant's resilience and elegance into a fixture that feels both natural and contemporary.

I explored the plant's layering system and its light-diffusing properties.
Exploring the aloe vera plant revealed its intricate layering system, which enables it to thrive in the desert. I translated this internal structure into a layered material system for the fixture, using overlapping forms to create a voluminous effect that diffuses the light and evokes the quality of water. The form was developed across a range of sizes.
