The Musubi Collection is a contemporary furniture trilogy comprising a sofa, a low bench and a coffee table. It explores the intersection of Japanese design philosophy and international minimalism. Born from a thesis on multiculturalism and design diversity, the collection eschews flashy ornamentation in favour of understated materiality, structural integrity, and a celebration of natural hard maple.

The pieces' silhouettes are defined by fluid, organic understructures and sweeping curves that lend the substantial wood an understated lightness. To anchor the minimalist forms, a singular disciplined detail has been introduced: structural fabric belts secured with traditional martial arts gi knots. This tactile element serves as both a functional fastener for the upholstery and a subtle cultural signature, demonstrating that furniture can be deeply personal, culturally rooted and universally timeless.

Bringing these complex, sculptural prototypes to life required a rigorous blend of digital craftsmanship and traditional hand-finishing.

To achieve the fluid, continuous transitions and organic under-bevels of the hard maple frames, the digital models were translated into complex toolpaths. Because the components feature complex curves on multiple faces, a 3-axis CNC router utilizing a precise flip-cut operation was used.

The coffee table utilizes a custom-cut, heavy-gauge plate glass top with highly polished, sweeping radiuses. The transparent surface ensures that the fluid, interlocking geometry of the hard maple base remains the visual focal point from every angle, maintaining an airy footprint in a space.
