Cordless Lighting Object · Light Integration & Glass CMF

Light integrated into glass and water.
Sui is a cordless centrepiece light that captures the essence of water. An inner light source evokes the translucent appearance of ice, while the surrounding glass mimics the surface tension of water and the ripples that emerge when it is disturbed. The design challenge was to integrate a rechargeable light and its electronics into a glass object seamlessly, so that the technology disappears into the material.

Frosted against clear; light against glass.
The design uses frosted and clear glass to create a contrast that shapes the way the inner light is perceived. Together, the pieces evoke the image of ice floating in a cocktail glass, with a layer of frost on the surface. I adjusted the glass forms and finishes so that light would diffuse softly through the frosted sections while the clear sections would retain their crisp definition. I also designed the rechargeable system so that the object would remain cordless and ready for use on a table.

A cordless centrepiece designed for the table.
This digital centrepiece integrates seamlessly into table settings, offering a modern, rechargeable alternative to traditional tea lights. When used across a larger space, such as a restaurant, multiple units can be arranged to create a harmonious landscape of light.
· Format: cordless, rechargeable centrepiece light
